Why Fit & Full: A Life of Passion

Self-exploration is such an enlightening experience. You find out what makes you tick, what drains you, what fills you. You develop this confidence to look your demons straight in the face and tell them you’re no longer keeping you from happiness. Without sounding too spiritual, you feel reborn but in a skin you’ve known all along. Re-examining my values and taking time to cultivate authenticity and self-compassion transcended my spiritual state; I began vibrating at a higher frequency. By becoming strong and confident in Kayla, I was able to put my energy outward, diving into my passions and begin unveiling my purpose.

I think we have a misconception about passions and purpose. When asked “what are you passionate about?” people tend to call upon their interests and the desire to achieve that “when you do what you love you never have to work another day in  your life” feeling but let’s be honest, work is work no matter how enjoyable. I think the difference between working and working on your passions is the end goal -no matter how big or small – makes you feel whole and sense of joy you feel on the pursuit. Your work is meaningful. But we forget meaningful work can be created on a smaller, every day scale. There are far more individuals who are able to live life of daily passion than those who are fortunate enough to turn their passions into a source of sustainable income – and bless those who are out there rockin’ it! – and we must remember that they too experience work highs and lows just like the rest of us. You don’t have to quit your day joy to purpose your passions, you just have to take action to make it a priority. By no means am I discouraging you to give up on your dreams but know it’s not all 30k Instagram followers and instant notoriety. Bringing our passions to fruition takes work and commitment. Commitment to the goal but more so commitment to yourself and the belief that you have the necessary talents to see your passions through.

Fit & Full is a result of my passion. Ruben Chavez states, “The things that excite you are not random. They are connected to your purpose.” I’ve always been drawn to writing, delighted in good food and have been very enthusiastic and dedicated to my body through fitness and nutrition. After months of introspection I gain clarity of how I was spending the majority of my time and recognized these areas as the strongest sources of what excites my soul daily.

“At the intersection where your gifts, talents, and abilities meet a human need; therein you will discover your purpose.”

I wish I could sit here and tell you I had some intense epiphany in which God came down on a cloud and whispered the exactly reason why I’m on this Earth and all the great things I was going to accomplish. Hate to report that he didn’t so I’m sitting here like the rest of y’all navigating life follow signs left my spiritual guides – thanks Karen – and listening to my heart. I don’t know if I ever will know my exact purpose and feel I don’t have just one as I am forever changing, growing and learning more about who Kayla is. Aristotle once said, “Where the needs of the world and your talents cross, there lies your vocation.” or simply put  “At the intersection where your gifts, talents, and abilities meet a human need; therein you will discover your purpose.” Looking at my life, I can tell you where I think my gifts, talents, and abilities lie. I believe I have the gift of creating genuine human connection. I believe my Type A personality played an instrumental role in molding my God-given talents which has afforded me transcending experiences and developed perspective beyond my world. I believe I have the ability to inspire others and bring out the best in those I surround. I believe my purpose is to serve others with an open heart. Humble brag or complete narcissism, identifying these strengths allows me to put all my time and energy into what activities and people who only help me shine. Fit & Full bring me one step closer on the journey of my purpose. It isn’t my full time job – because if it was my site would look much more refined. The joys of the real world. – but the time I spend writing, in the gym or exploring new foods brings me incredible joy. Every day I continue to push my limits, and every day I feel one step closer to defining my purpose. It’s a journey that I’ve truly enjoyed, striving towards my potential. That joy lets me know I am on the right path.

I understand all have responsibilities which keeps many of us from our BIG dreams but we can work every day on or towards our passions. You just have to make the decision to break the cycle, break the routine and insert the passions of your soul. What sets your soul on fire? What drives you to wake up every morning, ready to take on the world with a whole heart and eyes of optimism? Take a look at what fills you and empties you. For if it does not bring us happiness or a sense of being, what are we living for? If at all?

“Every moment you stay longer – in a job, relationship, or space – than you have to you will become extraordinarily ordinary.“

Choose to be extraordinary.
